Civil Suit

Copied with permission from the PRONC web site.

On March 7, 2007, Pug Rescue of NC, Inc. (PRONC) as a contracted agent of Wilson County Animal Control filed a lawsuit against Daryel Newsome seeking financial reimbursement for the costs and expenses incurred in taking care of all of the dogs seized from Newsome in late January 2007. As part of the suit, PRONC requested that the dogs voluntarily be given up by Newsome or seized from Newsome be given permanently to PRONC or other volunteer animal rescue groups for treatment and eventual adoption. Before the suit was filed, it was determined that Newsome really had no assets that would enable him to pay funds to PRONC. After being served with the Civil suit, Newsome's court appointed attorney contacted PRONC's attorney, Todd Jones to settle the case. After some negotiation, Newsome agreed as follows: 1. He permanently relinquished all rights that he had to the dogs and/or their offspring. These animals are now the property and possession of PRONC to be treated and prepared for adoption. 2. He agreed that he could not own more than one dog if any permitted by law, to be held as a pet, in the next ten years from March 2007 to March 2017. Additionally, he agreed not to be involved in the breeding of animals or assist or abet anyone in the breeding of animals for the next ten years from March 2007 to March 2017. Based on the above agreements, PRONC and Newsome settled the case.
